Huntington - Mentoring

Description: LEADers helped younger kids make 'No Smoking' signs for the courthouse.

Prevention: After creating the signs, LEADers ran a session with younger kids on ways to say not to smoking.

Huntington - Advocacy

Description: LEADers wrote letters to local council members noting the increasing use of prescription drugs by youth in our community.

Prevention: Before the writing of the letters, LEADers lead a normative education exercise with teens in the club.

Description: Cleaned up local parks including picking up trash, removing graffiti and pouring mulch.

Prevention: After each session the LEADers discussed different ways to say no to peer pressure using one of the refusal and resistant techniques.

Bloomington - Mentoring

Description: Teen Talk - Every Thursday the members divide into a group of all girls and a group of all boys. The femal groups are led by a female LEADer and the male groups are led by a male LEADer so they can feel comfortable discussing issues that are prevalent in their lives. A major issue is resisting ATOD.

Prevention: The teens focus on refusal and resistance skills.

Indianapolis - Lilly Club - Philanthropy

Description: Members hosted a car wash

Prevention: Asll proceeds raised were given to a local domestic violence center. Members presented the money to center staff, toured the facility, and learned about the dangers of domestic abuse and how domestice abuse occurs most often when substance abuse is prestent.

Indianapolis - Lilly Club - Advocacy

Description: Assessed community needs and gathered information to plan an event to create awareness around these needs. Following the assessment, they started a grant proposal for the Youth as Resources United Way program.

Prevention: LEADers assessed their community, created an event plan, and worked on a grant proposal. Needs assessed included drug abuse, teenage pregancy, and low graduation rates.

Description: Volunteered a the Day for Kids celebration at the Lilly Boys and Girls Club

Prevention: LEADers encouraged family time and the importance of going to school, specifically highlighting postive things to do instead of using drugs.
