The dawn of September 27th 2021 brought cessation to unhindered access to safe and clean water the people of Mariwo community have been enjoying, because the only borehole in the community was rendered useless by some unknown people. The solar powered borehole which was installed by Lead Transformation Initiative in 2018 as part of our infrastructural development for the community was vandalized and the solar powered pump stolen by yet to be identified people. Our attention was called to this ugly incidence by one of the rural catalysts in the community in the early hours of Monday September 27th 2021 where we were told that the pump was stolen overnight. Our team stormed the community immediately to assess the damages and got it archived. Meanwhile, we learnt that same incidence also took place in the two neighboring communities of Ilara-Mokin and Ero where the same suspected set of unknown people carted away electric pumps in the two government installed boreholes after vandalizing the boreholes.
The occurrence has therefore been reported at the Igbara Oke police division in the LGA and the men of the Nigeria Police Force are already on the look out to ensure the culprit are brought to book. Wrought
For years, Mariwo doesn’t have good water source for their domestic activities especially during the dry season. The inhabitants therefore depends on polluted stagnant water in the community for their drinking water. As luck will have it on them however, Lead Transformation Initiative entered the community to work with the farmers in order to improve their agric-socio economy. As part of our activities in achieving this, we embarked on some rural infrastructural works and installed a solar powered borehole for both domestic and farm use.
Since the installation in 2018, the borehole has been supplying clean drinking water to the community which has ultimately increase the level of hygiene of the inhabitants. And also irrigate the farm demonstration plot where the farmers in the community are learning and replicating agroforestry system of farming.
